Harris County deserves a judge who brings experience, integrity, and a genuine commitment to public service. I’m BreAnna Schwartz, Candidate for the 497th Felony District Court and I want to help build a criminal justice system that works—one that protects our community, follows the law, and earns the public’s trust.

Experience on Both Sides of the Courtroom

My entire legal career has been dedicated to criminal law. After earning my law degree from the University of Houston, I spent nine years as a Harris County prosecutor and have spent the last four years as a criminal defense attorney, primarily representing indigent clients in felony and post-conviction matters. I have handled hundreds of felony cases, tried felony cases as first chair, and reviewed hundreds of post-conviction matters requiring careful evaluation of court proceedings and legal decisions. This balanced experience has prepared me to evaluate cases thoughtfully, fairly, and independently.

Safety Through Accountability and Solutions

Public safety is essential. Violent offenders must be held accountable, and our justice system must pursue effective ways to reduce repeat offenders. When appropriate under the law, reintegration and rehabilitation programs can help eligible individuals return to their families, maintain employment, and become productive members of society. Reducing recidivism means fewer future victims, stronger families, and a safer community.

An Efficient Courtroom Built on Fairness and Respect

Every person who enters a courtroom deserves dignity and respect. I will strive to operate a courtroom grounded in the law, the evidence, consistency, and fairness. I believe protecting civil rights and upholding constitutional principles are essential to the integrity of our justice system and instilling public trust.

Justice delayed affects victims, defendants, families, and the community. Through organized scheduling, clear communication, and effective docket management, I will work toward an efficient courtroom where cases receive timely and meaningful attention.

A judge’s decisions affect lives and shape public confidence in our justice system. I am committed to continuous improvement, responsible judicial administration, and serving Harris County with an even temperament and unwavering respect for the rule of law.
